Storage hacks and tips for sellers

It's obvious that a de clutter is important before putting your home on the market.

Not only does it make the place look bigger and nicer it can also improve the overall perception of how the house has been looked after by you, the seller.

Which ultimately could increase what they are prepared to pay for it.

Of course, there are things we can't get just rid of even if not regularly used, those items should be put away neatly somewhere that viewers will not be looking.

If your plan is to ram things into a cupboard or stash everything piled high inside your wardrobe, unfortunately you will be potentially putting off viewers who might question if there is enough storage options available.

My tips?

If you have a loft- use it to your full advantage and get as much as possible up there, out of sight.

It is extremely rare for a viewer to want to see inside the loft unless it is a second viewing or a buyer visit.

If it's fitted, it comes with the house so be sure to organise your wardrobes neatly so that hanging rails and shelving can be fully appreciated.

If your fitted wardrobes run on rails, a quick vacuum before any viewings should hopefully mean they stay on track and slide along smoothly.

If you have an airing cupboard, use it as intended, to store your towels and bedding (neatly) add shelving if required.

Any large & useful cupboards will likely be a big selling point for anyone practical so make sure you show it off by ensuring it is fully visible.

Search Ikea storage hacks etc for cheap ways to increase the appeal of how you've made the cupboard work for you.

Take a look inside every single one of your kitchen cupboards.. are you impressed?

If not, re-organise to show everything has its place and fits in.

Viewers often pick a few random cupboards to open in the kitchen and messy, full cupboards are hugely off putting and will likely result in "kitchen is too small" feedback.

Declutter sheds and garages in advance, again add in shelving (fixed or freestanding, it doesn't matter) ensure these areas are not locked/agent has key access for viewings as serious buyers will absolutely want to see inside sheds and the garage.

Make sure your estate agent is aware of the loft; ie. Is it boarded? insulated? Does it have a pulled down ladder installed?

All questions lots of viewers ask so a good estate agent will be aware of these things by asking the seller before any viewings take place.
